Samaná is across the bay and looks very different from Punta Cana: greener, more jungle and fewer hotels. Almost all the excursions that leave from Punta Cana do the same thing, and it is what we do on our Samaná excursion.
What the route is like
- Early departure from your hotel toward the Miches area.
- Boat crossing from La Cañita to the Samaná peninsula.
- Safari truck up the mountain and a horseback ride to El Limón Waterfall, where you can swim.
- Dominican buffet lunch.
- Catamaran to Cayo Levantado (Bacardi Island), with about an hour and a half of beach.
- Return to La Cañita and transfer to your hotel.
How long it lasts
It’s a long day, about 12 to 14 hours including transfers. Don’t plan anything else for that night.
Quick questions
Do I need to know how to ride a horse? No. The horses are guided by experienced staff along the whole trail.
What should I bring? Swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, comfortable clothes and shoes, and cash for tips.
